County names family services director

Lisa Ruiz-Lee was named Thursday as director of Clark County's Department of Family Services.

Ruiz-Lee has served as interim director of the department since August 2011.

During that time, the department saw a 60 percent spike in the number of adoptions from 446 in 2010 to 719 in 2011. The increase was attributed to eliminating barriers such as paying some associated court costs, opening up court calendars to conduct adoption days and waiving home studies by caseworkers for children who had been living in foster homes or with relatives for an extended period of time.

Family Services investigates reports of child abuse and neglect and licenses fosters homes, among other responsibilities.

More than 3,000 children are in the system at any one time.

Ruiz-Lee has worked for the county since 1998. The County Commission is expected to ratify her appointment Tuesday.
