Coyote kills dog at popular Carson City park

CARSON CITY — Authorities were searching Saturday for a coyote that killed a small dog in a popular Carson City park.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said his office and the Nevada Department of Wildlife want to find the coyote involved in the attack Friday morning at Mills Park.

He told KRNV-TV that the coyote went after an unattended dog thought to be a Chihuahua at about 10 a.m. Animal control officers took the animal to a veterinary clinic, where it later died.

The coyote was last seen a short time later near Carson High School.

Furlong said the attack was unusual because coyotes are known to shy away from places where people go.
