Crews contain wildfire

Firefighters early Monday fully contained a wildfire sparked by Saturday's deadly plane crash on Mount Charleston.

The Echo Fire burned 12 acres in Kyle Canyon before fire officials declared it fully contained about 6 a.m., U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Lisa Ross said.

About 30 firefighters from federal, state and local agencies remained on the scene to search for and put out any smoldering hot spots, she said. Fire crews will continue their mop-up work around the clock and could remain on scene through the end of the week because of dry conditions, she said.

The fire began Saturday afternoon when a Piper Cherokee carrying two couples from Northern California plunged into the mountainside. The crash killed Erik and Tanya Nunn and Craig and Michele Wilson, all of Oakley, Calif., relatives said.

The couples were headed home after celebrating their anniversaries, they said.

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration continued their investigation of the crash.

The Nunns were the parents of four children. The Wilsons were the parents of three children.
