CSN Spirit Squad wins national championship at American Grand Nationals

The CSN Spirit Squad, the Coyotes, took first place in the category College Cheer Co-Ed Level 6 in the American Grand Nationals hosted by the American Cheer and Dance Championships in Las Vegas in December.

The squad, coached by Caron Milstead, includes Brianna Vargas, Vynnie Casas, Olga Alvarado, Patricia Waggoner, Kristina Bennett, Demarcus Jackson, Chaslina Cress, Candace Wynants, Theresa Leany, Angelique Southern, Alexis Banks, Darian Venezio, Meesha Worden, Antionique Hankston, Ashley Kerr, Raven Vanzandt, Kyle Anderson, Lashawna Reasonover, Tyra Browning, and Yesica Martin.

"The judges provided positive feedback about our energy level, and our music was a huge hit," Milstead said. "I have never been more proud to coach an incredible group of students filled with sheer determination, hard work and sacrifice."

The CSN Foundation supported the squad with a donation to help pay for the entrance into the competition. Student Life and Leadership and Student Government also support the squad.

Next up for the student club is the Universal Cheerleaders Association West Coast Champions competition, March 3-4, in Anaheim, Calif. In the meantime, the squad will announce a tryout date in early January to fill vacant spots. The Spirit Squad cheers for intramural sports, in addition to appearances at college and community events.
