Driver flees after car strikes, critically injures trick-or-treater

A 6-year-old is in critical condition after being struck by a car in the southwest valley Thursday night, according to Las Vegas police.

The trick-or-treater was at a church near Tenaya Way and Peace Way about 7:35 p.m. when she was hit by a silver four-door Volkswagen Jetta, police said.

The girl was with her family and they were walking across the street in an unmarked crosswalk. An off-duty police officer and a doctor were nearby when the child was hit and, after performing CPR, were able to get her to breathe again.

The child was taken to University Medical Center.

“It does not look real good at this time,” said Las Vegas police Lt. John Liberty.

The driver of the Jetta, thought to be in his 20s, fled the scene in his vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Police Department Accident Investigation Section. Contact police at 702-828-3128. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
