Eight seek to fill Family Court post
May 24, 2008 - 9:00 pm
Eight attorneys are seeking to replace Family Court Judge Gerald Hardcastle, who will retire July 1.
The applicants are: Bryce Callow Duckworth, 43; Fernando Guzman, 59; Charles J. Hoskin, 44; Thomas Kurtz, 56; Robert Wayne Lueck, 60; Amy Mastin, 38; Morrisa Schechtman, 48; and Robert Warren Teuton, 55.
The candidates will be vetted by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection, which is responsible for interviewing applicants, conducting background checks and gathering public comment when a mid-term vacancy occurs. The panel will send three nominations to Gov. Jim Gibbons, who will appoint a candidate.
The seven-member commission does most of its work behind closed doors. But for the first time, the interviewing and deliberation process will be open to the public. The open hearing is set for July 21.
Written comments should be sent no later than July 11 to: Commission Secretary Ron Titus, Administrative Office of the Courts, Supreme Court Building, 201 South Carson Street, Suite 250, Carson City, NV 89701.
