Elko newswoman wins new term on public broadcasting board

ELKO — Veteran Elko newswoman Lori Gilbert has won another term on the board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Gilbert to the nonprofit board that was created by Congress in 1967 to promote public broadcasting. It provides some funding for the Public Broadcasting System and National Public Radio.

Gilbert, who has been a board member since 2008, is news director for Elko Broadcasting Co.’s KELK and KLKO radio stations. She also is news director and anchor of KENV-TV, Elko’s NBC affiliate.

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., praised Gilbert, saying she has been “a trusted voice for Nevadans for years,” and he was proud to recommend her reappointment to President Barack Obama.
