KINGMAN, Ariz. -- Northwest Arizona authorities are mounting a law enforcement campaign today in anticipation of increased visitation to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.
The Mohave County sheriff's office said many tourists who will be celebrating the Chinese New Year in the Las Vegas area will travel south to view the scenic overlook.
Extra personnel will target speeding and other violations between now and Feb. 12. The Chinese New Year is observed Thursday.
"We expect to see an increase in the number of motor coaches, minibuses and 15-passenger vans operated by commercial tour agencies from Arizona, Nevada and California," Sgt. Don Bischoff said.
Separate crashes involving a rental car and a minibus on Skywalk excursions last year caused four deaths .
