Federal prosecutors drop child pornography case
Federal prosecutors have dropped their case against convicted child molester Chester Stiles, who is already serving 21 life sentences on state charges.
The 38-year-old’s federal trial on a child pornography charge was set to begin today.
He was convicted in March in state District Court on 22 criminal counts, including sexual assault and lewdness with a minor, in connection with the videotaped molestation of a 2-year-old and an unrelated sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl.
He will be eligible for parole after 140 years in prison.
In their motion to dismiss their case, federal prosecutors said they could refile federal charges if the state conviction or sentence changed significantly.
