Feds arrest Las Vegas doctor for Medicare fraud

A Las Vegas physician was arrested in Southern Nevada Friday on federal health care fraud and drug distribution charges from Syracuse, N.Y.

Mahesh Kuthuru, 43, who runs Desert Pain Management in Las Vegas, was indicted Wednesday with Bonnie Meislin, 42, an employee of his New York pain clinic.

He is accused of conspiring with Meislin to defraud Medicare by submitting claims for reimbursement that falsely represented he had performed medical services, according to federal prosecutors in New York.

Kuthuru also is charged with unlawfully distributing oxycodone and other painkillers.

He is to appear for arraignment on a total of 45 criminal charges before a federal magistrate judge in Syracuse on March 12.

The case was investigated by the FBI, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and several other state and federal law enforcement agencies in New York.
