Findlay Prep caps perfect season with tournament championship
Four years ago, the Findlay Prep basketball program didn't exist. Today, the Pilots sit atop the high school basketball world following a 74-66 win over previously unbeaten Oak Hill Academy of Virginia in today's championship game of the ESPN National High School Invitational at Georgetown Prep in North Bethesda, Md.
Leading by six points at halftime, the second-seeded Pilots, based in Henderson, built a 17-point fourth-quarter lead before No. 1 Oak Hill rallied. Oak Hill cut the deficit to five on two occasions, but the Pilots, with seniors Avery Bradly and Carlos Lopez on the bench having fouled out, made 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
Senior guard Avery Bradley, named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, led Findlay (41-0) with 20 points, while junior guard Corey Joseph added 18. Joseph and senior guard D.J. Richardson joined Bradley on the all-tournament team.
Oak Hill ended its season at 32-1.
