Firefighters battle blaze Tuesday at abandoned eatery near base

A fire ripped through an abandoned Chinese restaurant near Nellis Air Force Base for nearly two hours Tuesday morning.

Motorists reported flames coming out of the Chinese Village Restaurant & Lounge at 5280 E. Craig Road, near North Las Vegas Boulevard, about 8:45 a.m., according to Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison.

Allison said the fire was difficult to extinguish because of several small rooms that had been built into the attic area of the restaurant, which was boarded up.

About 40 firefighters battled the blaze. Nobody was injured.

The cause of the fire and the estimated damage were unknown Tuesday afternoon.
