Florida senators plan legislation to stop travel curbs on resorts

It looks like there could soon be legislation directing federal agencies to do away entirely with guidelines that restrict federal travel to resort destinations such as Las Vegas and Orlando, Fla.

Here's a link to a Federal Times report that says Sens. Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez of Florida plan to introduce legislation.

The report quotes Martinez stating: "It is one thing to avoid nonessential trips for the government to save taxpayers' money, but it is taking it a little far when it is another thing that if it is legitimate travel and you then avoid certain cities just because they are where they are.”

Travel to Las Vegas and Orlando has been subject to much scrutiny this year after national news networks and politicians looking to score points as waste-fighters sought to shame companies that took bailout money and government agencies for scheduling events in Las Vegas and other desirable resort destinations.
