Girl found dead at RV park

The young girl who lived at the Road Runner RV Park was described as well-mannered, someone who liked to occasionally bake cookies with neighbors.

Those neighbors were stunned Wednesday to see police cars arrive at the recreational vehicle she and her family called home.

Las Vegas police recommended William Redman, 54, be charged with murder with a deadly weapon in connection with his daughter's death.

Police said the girl was found dead inside the recreational vehicle, stabbed with what they described only as an "edged weapon."

"I'm just flabbergasted," said Carolyn Daily, a longtime resident of the park on Boulder Highway near Flamingo Road. "She kept to herself. I never heard her raise her voice about anything."

Police found a bloody Redman about noon sitting on the ground outside the recreational vehicle.

"Some of those wounds were consistent of what could be self-inflicted," said Las Vegas police spokesman Bill Cassell. "But that determination hasn't been made yet."

Cassell said the girl's mother called 911. Police haven't determined a motive for the attack.

Redman was at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center on Wednesday evening. His condition was unknown.

Police did not identify the victim by name, but Daily said her name was Gloria and she was 12.

The girl would occasionally bake cookies with her, and Daily would see her almost daily walking to school with her teenage brothers.

Daily's husband, Joe, learned of the attack when a manager told him the girl had been stabbed.

Joe Daily said he saw Redman taken to an ambulance on a stretcher. Only his head, which was soaked in blood, was visible.

Park resident Rex Davis shook his head when he learned of the tragedy, saying, "It seems like it's always the kids who get it. That's the saddest thing."

The Dailys, who have lived at the park for five years, said the girl's mom, Rosie, works as an elevator operator on the Strip.

The Dailys said Redman was unemployed and might have been on disability.

Joe Daily said he didn't know much about Redman, other than he was introverted and enjoyed taking bike rides with his children.

Other residents at the park, which advertises daily rates of $16 and monthly rates of $304, said they were shocked by the slaying.

Several residents said the park, which housed hundreds of trailers and mobile homes, is safe and well-maintained. But some were re-evaluating their opinion after learning of the slaying.

"I want out," said Davis' wife, Shirley, 67, who has lived at the park for more than a year.
