Gorman’s 12-game winning streak snapped at World Series
Midland, Mich., scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning Sunday to rally for an 11-8 win over Bishop Gorman at the American Legion World Series in Fargo, N.D.
The loss snapped a 12-game winning streak for Gorman (63-13), playing as the Southern Nevada Titans.
Defending national champion Gorman had won 28 of its past 29 games prior to the defeat in the eight-team, double-elimination series.
Midland took an 11-8 lead on Eric Dawson’s two-out, three-run triple down the right-field line.
Johnny Field was 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for Gorman. Kenneth Meimerstorf went 3-for-4 with a triple, and T.J. White was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Titans next will play Rowan County, N.C., in an elimination game at a time to be determined.
The tournament schedule has been scrambled because of weather. Gorman’s game Sunday was originally scheduled for Saturday.
