Heat warning extended until Sunday

The National Weather Service has extended its excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Sunday.

Temperatures could rise to 112 degrees or higher.

Between June 26 and Aug. 7, excessive heat can be reached when temperatures reach 112 degrees or higher.

Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 113. Winds will be light.

On Sunday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 112. Winds will be between 11 and 13 miles per hour at night, with gusts as high as 18 miles per hour.

Temperatures are forecasted to decrease to highs of 109 Monday and Tuesday.

There were 19 heat-related deaths in Nevada in 2008.

The current high for the year was set on Thursday when temperatures soared to 111 degrees at McCarran International Airport, the weather service's official monitoring site.

The weather service recommends people stay hydrated. Also they should remain in air-conditioned buildings and check in on friends and neighbors.
