Henderson officer who shot at suspect is ID’d

A Henderson police officer who shot at and missed a suspect Thursday night was identified Monday as Leon Farmer.

Farmer shot at the suspect who had a phone in his hand. Police said Farmer believed the man was holding a gun and that his life was in danger when he fired one shot at Peter Terry, 29, of Henderson.

Farmer has been with the department since 2002.

Terry's mother called 911 about 9 p.m. and said Terry had threatened to kill himself, police said. Terry also told his wife he would force officers to shoot him if she called the police, his wife later told officers.

When police officers arrived at Terry's apartment on Ramrod Avenue, near Mountain Vista Street, Terry ran into a desert area.

Farmer spotted him about 10 p.m. and ordered him to drop the object in his hand, but Terry raised it at the officer, who then fired, police said.

Terry was taken into custody with the aid of dogs a short time later and booked for resisting an officer.
