Identities released of LV officers, suspect killed during shooting

Las Vegas police have released the names of three officers involved in the fatal shooting of a robbery suspect late Friday night.

The officers were identified Monday as 27-year-old Nathan Jones, 46-year-old Jeffery Abell and 29-year-old Breck Hodson.

They exchanged gunfire with a Las Vegas man the Clark County coroner identified on Monday as Robert B. Mills II, 38.

Police said the officers confronted Mills at a 7-Eleven store on the corner of Nellis and Charleston boulevards, where he was seen using a sport utility vehicle matching one used in a string of earlier robberies in the area.

When they approached the man, he pointed a gun at them and fired twice, police said. Officers returned fire, striking Mills.

The coroner's office said Mills died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Abell has worked for the Metropolitan Police Department since June 2005. Jones and Hodson joined the department in January 2006. All three patrol officers are assigned to the department's Northeast Area Command. They remain on routine paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The incident was the 20th officer-involved shooting for the department this year.
