Elderly man dies in rollover accident after crash into pole

A 93-year-old man died after crashing his car into a utility pole and rolling over on Paradise Road near Karen Avenue Sunday morning.

Las Vegas police said the man was driving a 1987 Ford Thunderbird north on Paradise, south of the intersection, when it veered to the left and struck the curb at 9:35 a.m.

The car crashed through a chain-link fence before entering a parking lot, striking a pole, and rolling onto its roof.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the collision was possibly related to a health issue.

SHOOTING DEATH

Two suspects held in shooting, dragging, death of woman

Authorities say two suspects have been arrested after a 38-year-old woman was dragged alongside a vehicle for several blocks and then shot during a robbery attempt at a Southern California park.

Westminster police spokesman Van Woodson said Tuyet Thi Huynh of Garden Grove, Calif., was at an Orange County park Sunday when she was seen talking to a man and a woman who were sitting in a vehicle.

Woodson said the passenger of the car grabbed Huynh's purse as the driver sped away, dragging Huynh for several blocks. He said one of the suspects then shot Huynh, who fell to the ground. She died later at a hospital.

Woodson said 18-year-old Christopher Yu of Fountain Valley and 19-year-old Lynn Quach of Garden Grove were arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

INFANT'S DEATH INVESTIGATED

Police probe for clues after boxed remains found in lot

Investigators are looking for clues after a baby's remains were found in a box in a vacant lot in Tijeras near the mountains east of Albuquerque, N.M.

Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputy Lawrence Koren said a man who recently bought the unfenced lot was clearing debris Sunday when he discovered the box, about 30 yards west of New Mexico Highway 14. He said the box appeared to have been there for some time.

Koren said the remains were sent to the Office of the Medical Investigator, where workers will try to determine the infant's age and gender.

He said investigators spent part of Sunday combing the lot for more evidence and interviewing people.

FATAL CONFRONTATION

Ax-wielding man shot by police at California store

Police in Southern California have fatally shot a man they said threatened an officer with an ax during a confrontation with police at a grocery store.

Witnesses told police the man had been stabbing himself with a knife Saturday night at City Farm Market in Inglewood. A store employee said the man confronted him and told him he "killed people," then tried to stab the employee and walked away.

Police followed a trail of blood inside the store to a walk-in refrigerator in the market's warehouse. Two officers shot the suspect multiple times and killed him after he allegedly came out of the refrigerator wielding an ax and lunged toward one of them.

Police are withholding the suspect's identity pending notification of his family.
