Coroner's office identifies LV man who died in shooting

The 26-year-old Las Vegas man shot to death in a central valley neighborhood Sunday has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Charlston Davell Tooks Sr.

The shooting occurred in the 1000 block of Weaver Drive, near Lake Mead Boulevard and H Street.

Las Vegas police said Tooks was involved in an argument among a group of men. One of the men shot Tooks and another man with a handgun.

The men in the group then fled.

Tooks died of multiple gunshot wounds in what has been ruled a homicide.

No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon and a motive is unknown, police said.

Man who died after his car struck a parked vehicle ID'd

The man who was killed early Sunday morning after he lost control of his car in North Las Vegas has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office.

Santos A. Rivas-Rivera, 31, of North Las Vegas, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on Carey Avenue near Pecos Road about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Rivas-Rivera was traveling at a high rate of speed when, for reasons unknown, he lost control of the black 2000 Honda Civic he was driving. His vehicle struck a parked car.

The man died of blunt head trauma in what the coroner's office ruled an accident.

North Las Vegas stages full-scale disaster drill

North Las Vegas city officials are planning a full-scale disaster drill simulating an earthquake and the release of a toxic ammonia cloud.

Today's exercise begins at noon at U.S. Foodservice off Cheyenne Avenue near Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Theatrical smoke and emergency vehicles may be seen in the area.

The city's Emergency Operations Center will be activated to coordinate mock evacuations and victim decontamination until about 4 p.m.
