WHO IS THIS CHILD?
Police seeking ID for abandoned baby girl
Las Vegas police are asking for the public's help in identifying an infant found alone in a stroller on a street corner on Wednesday.
The girl, believed to be between 8 and 12 months old and weighing 27 pounds, was found on the corner of Charleston Boulevard and Pecos Road around noon, Las Vegas police said. She was in a dark blue stroller with a yellow pattern and was wearing soiled pink clothes with black tennis shoes.
The stroller had a stuffed animal hanging from it with the name "CRISS" written in pink on the toy. She was taken to Child Haven, Clark County's emergency shelter for abused, neglected or abandoned children.
Anyone who saw the child or has information on who the child is, or who was caring for her, is urged to call authorities at 828-LOST.

Proposal for appointed regents dies in Senate
The state Senate voted along party lines to reject a measure that would have amended the Nevada Constitution to end direct elections of the state's university system regents.
Eight senators voted for the measure while 13 voted against.
Sen. Bill Raggio, R-Reno, was the chief sponsor of the proposal, which would have let the governor appoint the regents and have the Legislature determine the number of board members and the length of their terms.

Woman killed in traffic accident along I-15
A 21-year-old woman died early Wednesday after the sport utility vehicle she was riding in overturned on Interstate 15.
Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Kevin Honea said the Michigan woman was sitting in the back seat of the black Ford Explorer, which was bound for California. Her 23-year-old husband was driving.
At 3:10 a.m., the vehicle veered into the median near mile marker 77, about 20 miles north of Las Vegas.
He steered sharply to the right and the vehicle overturned, Honea said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was thrown from the SUV and died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, Honea said.
Her husband and their infant son were taken to University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the crash was under investigation.

A Las Vegas man who was found dead in his home from a gunshot wound Tuesday was identified by the Clark County coroner's office as 27-year-old Aaron White.
Las Vegas police said White's wife returned home about 12:30 p.m. and found White, who had been shot in the head. They live on the 4300 block of Sunrise Avenue, near Charleston and Lamb boulevards.
Witnesses saw a man fleeing the residence in White's 1987 Chevrolet Caprice with paper license plates, police said. The car is two-toned, with dark blue paint over light blue paint, and has 24-inch wheels.
The vehicle was last seen headed south on Lamb toward Charleston.
