FATHER, FRIEND INJURED
9-year-old boy dies in two-vehicle crash
A 9-year-old boy was killed and his father and another man were severely injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.
Lake Havasu police lieutenant Richie Sloma said the trio were in a Jeep that overturned and exploded when struck by a Toyota pickup.
"It was a huge fireball", Sloma said. He said Justin Halliday was dead at the scene of the 3:50 p.m. wreck but that bystanders pulled his father Dustin Halliday, 31, and passenger George Hope, 47, from the burning vehicle.
The men were listed in critical condition Wednesday at the burn unit of University Medical Center. The driver of the pickup, Tina Michelle Means, of Lake Havasu, was released after being treated for minor injuries at Havasu Regional Medical Center.
Sloma said charges are pending against Means as investigators believe she was speeding and impaired at the time of the collision.
