NORTH LAS VEGAS

Police: Accident in driveway kills boy, 2

North Las Vegas police said they are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who was accidentally run over by his father, who was backing his car out of a driveway Friday.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. at the Green Spot Mobile Home Park, 2537 Las Vegas Boulevard N. near Civic Center Drive.

Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said the child's 35-year-old father was leaving from an appointment when the boy got out of the house.

The boy's mother was inside when the accident occurred and both parents took him to North Vista Hospital, where the boy died, Coon said.

Police declined to identify the 35-year-old father or the boy's mother. Coon said authorities had no reason to believe alcohol was involved in the incident. She said they don't plan to file any charges against the man at this point.

"This just seems to be a tragedy," Coon said. "These types of cases get really hard for officers to investigate."

HUNT FOR KILLERS CONTINUES

Police ID man found dead in apartment

The man found dead late Thursday in an apartment on J Street near Doolittle Avenue has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Albert Henry Cobb.

Las Vegas police continued Friday to search for two suspects they believe killed the 24-year-old Las Vegas man.

Witnesses at the scene told police the victim and two other men in their mid-20s got into an argument around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and shots were fired. Cobb died of multiple gunshot wounds in what has been ruled a homicide.

The suspects fled the scene and were still at large.

Cobb was found dead inside the apartment in the 1800 block of J Street.

Anyone with more information on the slaying is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Section at 828-3521.

SARAH PALIN'S DAUGHTER

Mother of fiance arrested in Alaska

The mother of Bristol Palin's fiance was arrested Thursday in Wasilla, Alaska, and charged with six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance.

Sherry L. Johnston, 42, was arrested at her home in Wasilla by Alaska state troopers with a search warrant in an undercover drug investigation.

Johnston is the mother of Levi Johnston, the 18-year-old who received international attention in September when Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, announced their teenage daughter was pregnant and he was the father. Bristol Palin, 18, is due today, according to a recent interview with the governor's father, Chuck Heath.

Troopers served the warrant at Johnston's home at the "conclusion of an undercover narcotics investigation," said a statement issued Thursday by the troopers as part of the normal daily summary of activity around the state.
