Suspect sought in fatal downtown shooting

Las Vegas police were searching for a suspect after a 47-year-old woman was shot and killed Friday night near downtown.

Police said the woman was standing on the sidewalk on 11th Street, near Fremont Street, when a faded blue sedan with tinted windows drove south on 11th and pulled up to the curb where the woman was standing. A short conversation took place, and the woman was shot at 11:17 p.m., according to police. The car was last seen driving east on Fremont. The woman's name was not released.

Woman dies after car slams into wall

A 28-year-old Las Vegas woman died after she lost control of her car and slammed into a brick wall early Saturday.

The woman, whose name was not released, was driving a 1999 Mercedes-Benz at 12:32 a.m. east on Vegas Valley Drive, east of Nellis Boulevard, at a high rate of speed, Las Vegas police said.

She lost control and spun clockwise across westbound lanes and into a wall about 80 feet east of Green Tree Avenue. The woman was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Four church group members die in crash

A car crash on the Pomona Freeway east of Los Angeles on Friday left four members of a church group dead, the California Highway Patrol reported. A fifth member was in critical condition.

Five young men and teens from Walnut Blessing Church of the Nazarene were in a speeding 1994 Toyota Camry that went out of control and rolled about 10:45 a.m. Friday.

Three occupants were hurled from the vehicle.
