Suspect sought in slaying near Overton

Las Vegas police were searching Monday for a man suspected in the Saturday evening slaying of another man near Overton.

Detectives identified Hector Horacio Martinez, 58, as a possible suspect in the fatal shooting, which occurred in the desert near Interstate 15 and Myron Road, police said.

Martinez, whose nickname is Despicado, and Anselmo Ortiz were arguing over money when Ortiz was shot, homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said.

Martinez is Hispanic, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 170 pounds.

Woman arrested in Henderson slaying

A Henderson woman was arrested Saturday in the shooting death of her boyfriend, police said.

Julie Ann Flores, 40, was booked into the Henderson jail on one count of murder. The name of her 43-year-old boyfriend was withheld pending positive identification.

Flores called 911 about 6:30 p.m. Saturday and said she had just shot her boyfriend at their home on the 100 block of Whistler Street, near Horizon Ridge Parkway and Gibson Road, police said.

She told police she had been arguing with her boyfriend throughout the day. During the argument he was sitting in her car revving the engine when she pulled out her gun and fired a shot into the air, police said.

When he got out of the car, she accused him of hitting her and shot him, police said.

The couple had recently moved to Henderson from Boulder City.

18-year-old shot, killed at apartment complex

An 18-year-old man died Monday after he was shot in chest about 4 p.m. at the Cayman Bay Apartments, 2701 North Rainbow Blvd., police said.

Witnesses told police that the man, who did not live at the complex, was shot after answering a knock at the door of the lower-level apartment he was visiting, Las Vegas police Lt. Lew Roberts said. Late Monday, police were still trying to ascertain whether that was true, Roberts said. He added that he did not believe the shooting was gang-related.

Shortly after police were notified about the shooting, a caller phoned authorities to say it had been an accident.

Police did not have any suspects in the case Monday night.

Husband wounds wife, kills self, police say

A Las Vegas man died after he shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself at their home in Spring Valley near West Flamingo and South Fort Apache roads about 5:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

The woman, whose name was withheld, was in critical condition at University Medical Center late Monday night, police said.

Three patrol cars remained at the couple's 2,092-square-foot two-story home at 9231 Bush Poppy Ave., in the quiet subdivision off Rochelle Avenue three hours after the shooting.

According to Clark County assessor records online, the home is owned by Brody and Rosana Colton.
