Woman dies from burns in July 5 fire
A 76-year-old woman died Tuesday from burns she suffered in a fire at her home earlier this month.
Dong Quan died at University Medical Center, where she was taken after her home caught fire the morning of July 5, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.
Firefighters were called about 8:50 a.m. to 515 Bayberry Drive, near Bonanza Road and Nellis Boulevard, as a black plume of smoke rose from the burning one-story house.
Quan was standing in the driveway with serious burns, when firefighters arrived. Quan told fire investigators she was watching television when she noticed flames on her patio.
Investigators were unable to determine what happened next and how she was burned.
APPARENTLY ABANDONED
Fire destroys house off St. Rose Parkway
A Tuesday afternoon fire destroyed a house in Henderson.
Firefighters responded to the house near Las Vegas Boulevard and St. Rose Parkway about 4:50 p.m. The house was engulfed in flames and already had partially collapsed when they arrived, according to the Henderson Fire Department.
The house was apparently abandoned and the nearest fire hydrant was a half-mile away, so firefighters let the house burn. No one was hurt.
As of Wednesday night, investigators had not determined what started the fire. Damage was estimated at $100,000.
POSSIBLY MISSING SWIMMER
Man's body recovered from Lake Havasu
The body of a possible drowning victim was recovered Wednesday from Lake Havasu.
The Mohave County, Ariz., sheriff's office said the body and clothing match the description of a Fullerton, Calif., man who had been missing and presumed drowned since Saturday afternoon.
Positive identification and autopsy results were pending.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter said a boater discovered the body about one-half mile west of the area where Lloyd Richard Rowland, 22, disappeared while swimming with friends near Windsor Beach.
Carter said they were waiting to use the launch ramp to pull their boat out of the water when Rowland slipped below the surface.
PICKUP SWEPT AWAY
Two drown after storm floods Arizona wash
The Mohave County, Ariz., sheriff's office said two men drowned during a Tuesday thunderstorm after trying to cross a flooded wash in Golden Valley.
Sheriff Tom Sheahan said the heavy-duty diesel pickup the men were in was destroyed as the raging water rolled it about 200 yards from the crossing point, some four miles north of state Route 68.
Sheahan said the water spanned some 100 yards across the normally dry wash. Witnesses told responders both men escaped the vehicle as it was swept downstream.
The sheriff said the body of a victim believed to be in his 60s was found about 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, while the body of a younger man was found at 7:21 a.m. Wednesday.
"The first body was found about a mile from the vehicle, and then the second body was found about 300 yards from the first," Sheahan said. Both men are believed to be Golden Valley area residents.
