Lake Mohave recreation area to stay closed this weekend

Facilities at Cottonwood Cove on Lake Mohave will remain closed this weekend but should be open next week after crews finish disinfecting and testing a repaired water well system, a National Park Service spokeswoman said.

The system broke down Monday, forcing officials to close the popular recreation spot east of Searchlight.

Spokeswoman Roxanne Dey said Friday that repairs have been completed but that it will take a few more days to flush the system and check it.

The problem occurred when the drive shaft that draws water from the well failed.

Officials closed a trailer village, an RV park, a store, a cafe and a marina, and a barrier was set up.
