Lamb gets look at Lamb of old
Former Clark County Sheriff Ralph Lamb is back from Las Vegas, N.M., where he got his first look at Dennis Quaid as Ralph Lamb.
True to character, the scene involved fisticuffs.
A DC-3 airplane was landing on a runway when Quaid "came riding up on a roan, going fast as he could," Lamb recalled Tuesday during his 85th birthday celebration with friends at Morton's steakhouse.
As the DC-3 pilot was getting off the plane, Quaid's Lamb character rushed up and laid down the law.
"Don't fly over my land and stampede my cattle anymore," Quaid growled.
When the pilot gave him some guff, Lamb roughed him up, and, for good measure, he let the plane mechanic have it.
"It was just huge," said Lamb, referring to the on-location shoot for the CBS pilot about Lamb's Wild West years in office.
Lamb joined the main cast members for many a meal in a 130-year-old hotel during his stay, calling them "the best bunch of people."
"I'd never been around a shoot like this," he said. "There were double-wide trailers with my picture on the doors, that airplane, Hells Angels, chorus girls, even an orchestra."
Quaid and Michael Chiklis ("The Shield") couldn't have been nicer, he said. Lamb got a happy birthday call Monday from Quaid. They share April 9 as their birth date.
