Las Vegas man dies while swimming at Lake Mead

The body of a 46-year-old Las Vegas man, who presumedly drowned while swimming in Lake Mead, was recovered Sunday afternoon, according to the National Park Service.

The Clark County coroner's office identified the man as Kiangsak Ratana.

Ratana was reported missing while swimming late Saturday night and his body was found by divers on Sunday afternoon, park officials said.

Authorities received an emergency call about 11:30 p.m. Saturday about a man going missing while swimming at Sandy Cove within Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Park rangers began a search but called it off at 3 a.m. Rangers and the dive team from the Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue Unit resumed the search Sunday morning.

Divers located Ratana's body in 30 feet of water.

Park rangers are investigating to determine the cause of the presumed drowning.

Witnesses said Ratana was not wearing a life jacket.
