Las Vegas police shoot man wielding knife
A man wielding a 17-inch knife was shot by at least two Las Vegas police officers responding to a domestic violence call Tuesday night.
Officers were called to a southwest valley home at 11:08 p.m. on a report of a “violent domestic disturbance,” police said.
As officers approached the two-story stucco home on the 9500 block of Knotweed Avenue, near Fort Apache Road and Patrick Lane, they heard yelling and screaming coming from inside.
They knocked and announced themselves but received no response and forced their way in. They were confronted by 30-year-old Marcus Jackson, who was armed with a hunting knife, police said.
He moved toward the officers in an “aggressive manner.” The officers, fearing for their own safety and that of the female occupant in the house, fired several rounds, police said.
Jackson was wounded and taken to University Medical Center. He is expected to survive, Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Bill Cassell said.
Jackson was booked into the Clark County Detention Center in absentia on charges of attempted murder on a police officer and resisting a police officer.
Police didn’t say how many officers fired their weapons. The officers involved were placed on routine paid administrative leave until the completion of an internal investigation.
