LSU dean named provost at UNR

The dean of the College of Science at Louisiana State University has been named the new executive vice president and provost for the University of Nevada, Reno.

UNR President Marc Johnson announced Tuesday that Kevin Carman will assume the role of the university's chief academic officer on Feb. 1.

Carman has a background in biological oceanography. He serves on the education committee of the American Institute for Biological Sciences and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

As provost, he will oversee UNR's academic and outreach programming, including six colleges, the Division of Health Sciences, Division of Extended Studies and University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
