LV doctor arrested in drug prescription case released

By DAVE HAWKINS

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A Las Vegas physician charged in a prescription drug and insurance billing case in Arizona was released from the Mohave County jail Friday after posting $50,000 bond.

Dr. Albert Szu Sun Yeh, 44, was free to return to his family in Las Vegas but he is required to attend future legal proceedings, including his arraignment in Kingman on Aug. 7.

Defense attorney Dan Goldfine said Thursday that Yeh is innocent of charges of conspiracy, assisting a criminal syndicate, money laundering and administering a narcotic drug, allegations in a 14-count grand jury indictment.

Yeh's physician assistant, Bryan Espinosa, 54, of Henderson, is named in a similar seven-count indictment.

Espinosa had his initial court appearance in Kingman on Friday. Superior Court Judge Rick Williams affirmed a $30,000 bond and ordered Espinosa to appear for arraignment on Aug. 7 as well.

Prosecutors allege Yeh doled out prescription drugs like candy and provided drugs to undercover officers without engaging in routine medical protocols.

The government also alleges that Yeh perpetrated fraud through false insurance billing that netted him an estimated $3.5 million.

Authorities said they seized about $3.9 million from Yeh's bank accounts and other personal assets when indictments were detailed during a July 13 news conference in Phoenix.
