LV police identify officer who fired at, missed suspect

A Las Vegas police officer who shot at and missed a robbery suspect Sunday has been identified.

Officer Cody Thompson, 26, has been with the Metropolitan Police Department since 2007 and is a patrol officer for Northwest Area Command, police said.

Police said the incident happened about 11 p.m. near Torrey Pines Drive and Smoke Ranch Road, when Thompson made contact with a man suspected in a robbery that night.

During a foot pursuit, the man pointed a gun at Thompson, police said. Thompson fired at the suspect.

After the shooting, the suspect was taken into custody with a Taser .
