LV police investigate slaying of woman

A middle-aged woman was found dead Wednesday afternoon in a short-term rental room in an incident Las Vegas police are investigating as a homicide.

Las Vegas police Sgt. Russ Shoemaker said a 911 caller alerted police when he found his injured girlfriend about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on the floor of a room in The Suites, 4625 S. Boulder Highway, near Indios Avenue.

Shoemaker said the man told a 911 operator he did not know whether his girlfriend was dead. Shoemaker said medical personnel arrived at the motel room within minutes and found the woman dead.

Police did not identify the woman, who was believed to have been killed with some type of weapon.

"I don't know if she was shot or stabbed," Shoemaker said. "I couldn't tell."

Shoemaker said the injuries were not self-inflicted. He said the woman was 51. Her car had Nevada license plates.

The Suites is a short-term motel that charges a weekly rate of $238.66 for guests, or $965.60 for monthly visitors.

Shoemaker said Wednesday that police were trying to identify a motive and suspects.

Anyone with information about the slaying can call 828-3521 or 385-5555.
