Man burned in Nov. 4 apartment fire in Las Vegas dies
A 24-year-old Las Vegas man died from severe burns he suffered after a kitchen fire set his apartment ablaze on Nov. 4.
The man, whose name was not released, had burns on 75 percent of his body and underwent several treatments at University Medical Center before he died Tuesday.
Fire officials have ruled the fire at 3333 N. Michael Way, near Cheyenne Avenue, accidental.
The man's girlfriend told investigators that they had used the stove earlier that night for a party.
She awoke just after midnight to the man screaming that the apartment was on fire and to get their two children out, Las Vegas fire officials said.
Neighbors heard the commotion and called 911. They helped the woman and two children jump safely from the second-story window.
One neighbor broke through the front door and spotted a man lying unconscious on a sofa. He carried the man outside just as firefighters arrived.
The rescuer, victim's girlfriend and two children were treated for smoke inhalation at the hospital.
Firefighters from Fire Station 43, the first unit on the scene, have donated food and other items to the family. The family has received help from local emergency dispatchers, the American Red Cross, the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Foundation and the Southern Nevada Firefighters Burn Foundation.
