Man dies in NLV after being thrown from truck in crash

A 42-year-old man was killed Sunday in a collision in North Las Vegas.

The man was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup "at a very high rate of speed" south on Losee Road, near Gowan Avenue, North Las Vegas police said.

At 5:19 p.m., the driver drifted to the right and struck a steel power pole off the roadway. He was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash and are trying to determine why the vehicle left the roadway, police said. The name of the man was not released.
