Man dies of injuries suffered when he was struck by a car

A Las Vegas man died at University Medical Center on Monday after being struck by a car while crossing the street Saturday night, North Las Vegas police said.

Steven Rahman, 52, died from multiple blunt force trauma, according to the Clark County coroner's office.

Police Sgt. Tim Bedwell said the man was struck while crossing Lake Mead Boulevard, near Simmons Street, between crosswalks in a dark area.

He was struck by a vehicle driven by an 89-year-old woman, who left the scene without realizing she'd hit a person, Bedwell said.

The woman later called police to report damage to her vehicle from a thrown object, Bedwell said. Relatives later called the woman and said her car matched the description of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident reported in the news, Bedwell said.

Investigators believe the pedestrian was at fault, and charges have not been filed at this time, Bedwell said.
