Man gets 10 years to life in baby death

A 42-year-old accused of killing his girlfriend's 11-month-old baby in 2001 was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison Friday in District Judge Donald Mosley's courtroom.

Derrick Inkton was arrested July 11, 2001, a day after his girlfriend's son Jeremiah Dewayne Lee was brought to University Medical Center unresponsive.

He was placed on life support and died as a result of traumatic injuries, according to a Las Vegas police report.

The boy had been in Inkton's care that day, the report stated. Doctors found bruises across the boy's abdominal area, under his and on his back. A fresh cut appeared under his eyelid.

Inkton pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in August.
