Man gets life with no parole in 2007 shooting of store clerk
A robber who in 2007 mortally wounded a store clerk despite the man's cooperation with his demands was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Deonte Marshall, 31, was caught on surveillance tape shooting Green Valley Grocery clerk Steve Inman, 60, during a robbery July 11, 2007. Inman, who was shot in the head, died four months later.
Marshall and his alleged accomplice, Angel McClelland, 23, netted less than $90 in the robbery.
Marshall was sentenced last week by District Judge Jennifer Togliatti. He was captured in California in early 2008 after being featured on the television program "America's Most Wanted."
In August, Marshall pleaded guilty but mentally ill to murder, conspiracy, robbery, burglary and felon in possession of a firearm. By pleading guilty but mentally ill, he will be able to get mental health care while in prison.
McClelland was extradited from California after a grand jury indicted her on similar charges in August. She is awaiting a trial date.
Inman took the clerk's job to help pay for his wife's cancer treatments. She died two weeks before he did after stopping the treatments to remain at his bedside.
