Mazzeo lawsuit: Gibbons’ deposition set for Friday, but where will it occur?

Oh, to be a fly on the wall. Gov. Jim Gibbons will provide a deposition Friday regarding the civil rights lawsuit Chrissy Mazzeo filed more than three years ago against the governor, former Clark County Sheriff Bill Young, Metro and political guru Sig Rogich.

But just where that deposition will be held is up in the air. U.S. District Judge Roger L. Hunt at 11 a.m. today will hear an emergency motion for a protective order regarding the location.

An employee of Mazzeo's attorney, Robert Kossack, said the governor did not want to be deposed in Kossack's office because he was intimidated by the surroundings.

Mazzeo, readers will remember, is the single mom and former cocktail waitress who accused Gibbons of assaulting her in a Las Vegas parking garage in October 2006, just weeks before he was elected governor.

No criminal charges were filed after Mazzeo filed a complaint with law enforcement, a fact that prompted the woman to file the civil rights lawsuit in federal court alleging conspiracy, among other things.

Interested parties can attend today's hearing in courtroom 3B at the federal courthouse. Alas, Friday's deposition, given under oath, will be closed to the public.
