New Navy super gun shoots projectiles at 4,500 mph — VIDEO

The U.S. Navy has introduced its next generation weaponry.

The Electromagnetic Railgun is capable of launching projectiles at 4,500 mph and hitting targets 100 miles away, faster and farther than any other gun.

The gun launches projectiles between two conductive rails, using electricty instead of chemical propellants.

Gun, which uses kinetic energy rather than conventional explosives, shoots projectiles at more than seven times the speed of sound.

The U.S. Navy plans to test a prototype Electromagnetic Railgun aboard a vessel in 2016.
