Mobile home burned in 22,000-acre fire north of Ely

ELY - Crews are fighting a 22,000-acre fire north of Ely that's already burned a mobile home.

Authorities say the person living in the home was safely evacuated and no injuries have been reported in the North Schell Fire that's burning steep, rugged terrain on the east side of the Schell Mountain Range.

The fire is on Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service and privately owned land about 20 miles north of Ely.

A portion of state Route 893 between U.S. Highway 50 and Schellbourne Pass was closed.

Authorities said their priority is protecting people, private property and sage grouse and mule deer habitats.
