Mom found slain in home
The mother of a 2-year-old girl was found slain Thursday morning in the family's house near Civic Center Drive and Eastern Avenue in North Las Vegas.
"It was a brutal killing," said officer Tim Bedwell, a spokesman for North Las Vegas police. He wouldn't go into detail about the victim or how she was killed.
The victim, a woman in her early 20s who worked as a cashier at Food 4 Less, was found by family members at a house on the 2300 block of Bassler Street.
Paramedics who went to the house called police about 9:45 a.m., said officer Sean Walker, a spokesman for North Las Vegas police.
Several hours after the victim was found, authorities issued an Amber Alert because the victim's 2-year-old daughter, Lianette Gomez, and the toddler's father, Jesus Gomez, were missing.
Authorities later located Lianette Gomez unharmed at a house in North Las Vegas and were reuniting her with relatives. Police were looking for 30-year-old Jesus Gomez on Thursday but said he wasn't a suspect in the killing.
"He is someone we want to talk to," Walker said.
Police still were investigating the incident and said they didn't know why the victim was killed.
The victim was known to co-workers at Food 4 Less as Myra Gomez. Jodie Reece, who worked with the victim for about a year at the grocery store, wept Thursday in the parking lot of the store as she described her friend.
"She was always friendly and loving. She welcomed me when I came here," Reece said, referring to the store location at Las Vegas Boulevard near Carey Avenue, less than a mile from where the victim was found.
