More than half expected to vote have already cast ballots

More than half of Nevadans expected to vote in the primary election have already cast ballots, state election officials said.

A total of 137,933 Nevadans, or 12.9 percent, of the state's 1,064,558 active voters took advantage of a two-week early voting period that ended Friday.

Another 23,016 people, or 2.1 percent, of the state's active voters had turned in absentee or mail-in ballots by Friday.

That means 160,949 Nevadans, or 15.1 percent, of the state's active voters, already have voted.

Secretary of State Ross Miller has predicted a statewide voter turnout of 20 percent to 25 percent for the primary.
