Motorcyclist dead after crash in northwest valley

A motorcycle rider has died after a crash involving a pickup truck just before 9 a.m. Monday sent him to the hospital with critical injuries.

According to Las Vegas police, a 2007 Toyota Tacoma was exiting the parking lot of 6551 Centennial Center Blvd., south of Grand Montecito Parkway, when it was struck by a 2007 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle about 8:47 a.m.

The rider of the Suzuki, 27-year-old Derrek Halbach, was ejected from the motorcycle and transported to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Las Vegas police said. He died Monday afternoon.

Eric and Janet Waugh, the 56-year-old driver and 62-year-old passenger of the truck, suffered minor injuries.
