Motorcyclist dies after fiery Las Vegas accident

A motorcyclist died after a fiery crash near Oakey and Martin Luther King boulevards Saturday despite efforts by passing drivers who dragged him from the flames.

A preliminary investigation showed that the 21-year-old motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident happened about 3:28 a.m., said Metro Lt. Mike Wallace.

Witnesses said the rider of the 2014 Kawasaki EX250 sport motorcycle was traveling east on Oakey, approaching a bend near Martin Luther King, when he left the travel lane, ran over the south sidewalk and collided with the a light pole.

The motorcycle and the man burst into flames. Passing drivers dragged him away from the fire and into the street, police said.

The motorcyclist was transported to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
