11-year-old New York girl dies after being left in car in driveway

CORAM, N.Y. — Authorities are investigating the death of an 11-year-old girl who was found alone in a parked vehicle on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say the girl was unresponsive when she was found by her mother in a vehicle in the driveway of her home in Coram just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say the mother had been running errands with the victim and two other children. After returning home, police say the mother went inside, believing that all the children were out of the car.

Sometime later, police say the mother couldn’t locate her daughter and found her in the car. She carried her inside, called 911 and administered CPR. Police and emergency crews arrived within minutes.

The girl was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
