Grand Canyon will remain open if there is government shutdown
PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is offering assurances to people planning to visit Grand Canyon National Park, saying it will remain open regardless of whether there is a federal government partial shutdown.
The park is a major tourist attraction and Ducey announced Friday that he’s implementing a state plan to keep park gates open and continue services such as shuttles and public restrooms.
According to a statement released by Ducey’s office, the plan calls for the state parks agency to work with the National Park Service, local governments and businesses to work together to ensure that services and public safety functions continue.
The statement also says tours and other businesses such as lodging, food, beverages and retail will remain operational.
The park’s gates remained open during a brief February federal shutdown.
