In case you missed it: Lightning zaps commuter train
Insane footage shows lightning striking a train during a storm Monday in Japan.
The video, posted to YouTube on Monday, shows a lightning storm in Tokyo. At the 1:19 mark, a lightning bolt strikes a train car on Tokyo’s Odakyu Electric Railway.
The strike caused a power outage on the train, according to the website Kotaku. Photos tweeted by train passengers and gathered by IT Mediashow the inside of a darkened car, with people crowded around the windows looking out.
There were no injuries, according to Kotaku, but the lightning strike did cause delays.
Lightning has been catastrophic for trains in the past. In July 2011, six cars from two bullet trains in China’s Zhejiang province derailed after one was struck by lightning and lost power. At least 38 people were killed and 200 more injured in the disaster.
