Video shows rescue from edge of cliff after ATV accident

Heart-stopping helmetcam video shows a woman’s rescue last month after an ATV accident left her dangling from a 40-foot cliff.

Angelica McCall was four-wheeling with a group of friends west of Cedar City, Utah, when she fell off her ATV and started sliding down the edge of the cliff.

Her friend John Dumm witnessed the accident and climbed down to help McCall. The video, posted to YouTube, shows Dumm climb down to McCall as her husband, Chiron, tried to keep her ATV from sliding down and hitting her.

“And I can hear her. I can hear her saying ‘I’m falling, I’m falling’,” Dumm told KSL in Salt Lake City. “There was no time to mess around, so I started down. There was no plan.”

The video shows McCall’s terror as she struggles to maintain her hold on a nearby root. She says she can’t breathe and takes off her goggles and helmet before calming down enough to start climbing backward to safety.

After McCall was safe, Dumm lost control and started sliding toward the edge of the cliff.

“That was the only time I really got nervous, because I could hear her screaming ‘No, no, no, John, John, John!” Dumm told KSL.

The helmetcam footage cuts out as the group is trying to pull the ATV onto the road. Dumm said the group tied sweathshirts together and used them as a rope to pull it up.
